Slit coils of steel are put through a slow cold forming operation until the two sides of the steel are welded together in a tubular form, resulting in round ERW steel pipe. The resistance to the passage of electric current applied by an induction coil generates the heat for the continuous weld along the seam.
Round steel tubing that has been electric resistance welded (ERW) is a great option for most treatments. Depending on the exterior diameters, steel round tube is available in ASTM A500 grade B, ASTM A53 Gr.B and BS 1387. ERW round tubes have a welded seam inside and a non-coated, semi-smooth dark grey finish. Railings, exhaust, roll cages, hinges, and basic tubing applications are all common. The ASTM A500 standard covers cold-formed, welded, and seamless carbon steel structural tubing in rounds and forms.
